Staff Biographies

The following people serve as members of the Board of Directors of ASRC.

Mr. Paul Bergman

President
Head Coach
Coach Bergman was introduced to Rugby as a freshman at Northern Illinois University. A five-year education at NIU allowed him to gain experience as club president and captain before graduation. At that time, he joined the Chicago Lions Rugby Club. In his ten-year playing career with the Lions, he earned the club�s Rookie of the Year and Lowry Lion awards, as well as selection to the Chicago and Midwest select sides.

After retirement as a player, Coach Bergman served as an assistant coach with the Lions before taking over as the Head Coach of the Chicago area select side, a position he held for eleven years before being invited to coach the Midwest select side in 1998. During his tenure from 1998 - 2008, the Midwest program placed 13 players in the US National Team program. Locally, he coached the Northwest Woodsmen Rugby Club from 2000-2004, winning the Midwest Division II Championship in 2002.

Coach Bergman is certified as a USA Rugby Level III Coach and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He currently lives in Arlington Heights with his wife Lana, daughter April and son Harry (an HHRC alum).
Mr. Fernando Egea

Vice-President
Mr. Egea is the Vice-President of the ASRC and one of its founding members.

Mr. Egea began his Rugby career as a prop with the University of Kansas in 1990. Playing with the Jayhawks, he was able to gain valuable experience playing with foreign students and was selected to the Western collegiate side in 1992. He then moved to Chicago and began playing with the Chicago Lions Rugby Football Club in 1993. He continues to be active with the Lions.

Mr. Egea is currently employed by Abbott Laboratories as a Systems Analyst within Abbott�s Discovery division. He lives in Arlington Heights with his wife, Susan and son, Nicholas.
 
Mr. Michael A. Pateras

Forwards Coach
Coach Pateras began his Rugby career playing in Montreal, Canada. He played Second Row (Lock) for four years and was a member of 2 city championship teams in 15-a-side variation and 2 city championship teams in 7-a-side variation. He was invited to try out for the Quebec Provincial Select Side Team prior to moving to Wilmette.

Coach Pateras attended Loyola University of Chicago and while there, formed the Loyola University Mens Rugby Football Club. The club re-established years later and is still active in collegiate play and has expanded to include a women's side.

Coach Pateras is certified as a USA Rugby Coach and Referee. He is employed by Allstate Insurance Company as a Process Compliance and Reporting Specialist, providing support for Allstate�s technology and business strategies and is a Certified Software Quality Analyst. Prior to that, he worked in Medical Devices manufacturing as a Certified Quality Manager, Certified Corporate Safety Manager and Independent Consultant. He lives in Mount Prospect with his wife Janet and sons Gregory (an HHRC alum), Brian and Christopher (current ASRC players). He has also been a coach for various youth sports within the River Trails and Mount Prospect park districts and the Mount Prospect Football Association.
 
Mr. Courtney White

Backs Coach

Coach White began his Rugby career as a sophomore at Northern Illinois University in 1991. He played four seasons with NIU before graduating in 1995. After a short hiatus from the game, he joined the Northwest Woodsmen Rugby Football Club and was a member of the 2002 Midwest championship team, which also went on to finish 16th in the nation. He played mainly as a wing, but had brief stints at Scrumhalf and Fullback.

Coach White is certified as a USA Rugby Coach and Referee. He is currently the Division Head for Physical Education at Buffalo Grove High School. He also serves as an assistant athletic trainer at BGHS for the fall sports season. He currently resides in Chicago and stays active playing in many park district leagues.

 
Mr. Jason Blue, ATC, NASM-PES

Team Trainer
Mr. Blue graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelors degree in Physical Education, double-majoring in Athletic Training and Exercise Science and Fitness.

Mr. Blue is employed at Athletico in Arlington Heights as a physical therapy aide, certified athletic trainer and performance enhancement specialist. In 2004, he completed a 6 week internship with the Chicago Bears; he was invited to return to the Bears for the 2005, 2006 and 2007 seasons.

Mr. Blue was born, raised and currently lives in Palatine.
Mr. Lou Raymond
Board of Directors
Mr. Raymond is President of the Northwest Woodsmen Rugby Football Club, based in Schaumburg, and has been a strong supporter of ASRC since its founding.

Mr. Raymond grew up in Arlington Heights and graduated from St. Viator H.S. in 1988. He started playing Rugby while attending John Carroll University, eventually serving as its captain and president. After college, Mr. Raymond played for several clubs around the country before setting roots back in Chicago and playing for the Woodsmen. He is also an assistant coach for the Illinois U-19 select side and is a certified referee.

Mr. Raymond is employed by Intrinsic Quality as a Test Engineering Manager, providing electronic engineering services to OEM and contract manufacturers. He lives in Chicago with his wife, Kylie.

Mr. Dan Bartlett
Middle School Head Coach
Coach Bartlett was one of the original members of the Arlington Stallions Rugby Club (known as the Hersey Huskie Rugby Club). He played between 2005 - 2007, serving as co-captain in 2007. He played Lock.

Coach Bartlett is a student at Harper College and plays for the Northwest Woodsmen.
Mr. Harry Bergman
Middle School Coach
Coach Bergman was one of the original members of the Arlington Stallions Rugby Club (known as the Hersey Huskie Rugby Club). He played between 2005 - 2007, serving as co-captain in 2007. He played Scrumhalf.

Coach Bergman is a student at Harper College and plays for the Chicago Lions.
